Judge Gladys Branagan of Plymouth, NY; ethical goblin

The New York Judicial Commission found Judge Branagan guilty of engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while she was employed as a Justice of the Peace for the Chenango County Plymouth Town Court.

  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Gladys!)
  • Failed to report or remit at least $14,560 in court funds to the Office of the State Comptroller within ten days of the month succeeding their collection
  • After check for $14,560 returned for being incorrect, it took Gladys 5 months to issue a corrected check
  • Repeatedly failed to file her monthly reports with and remit court funds to the State Comptroller within ten days of the month succeeding their collection, as required
  • Failed to timely file 42 out of 43 monthly reports and to timely remit the funds identified in those reports with the State Comptroller
  • From 2000 thru 2007 Gladys failed to report any dispositions of traffic tickets to the Department of Motor
  • Vehicles as required by Section 514(1) of the Vehicle and Traffic Law

Rather than await a ruling from the Judicial Commission that would have likely led to her removal from the bench, Gladys did what any loser Judicial Misfit would do under the circumstances, she resigned.

As we speak (ca. August 2020), it is rumored that Gladys has applied for a job as a greeter at the Walmart Supercenter Store located at 5396 State Highway 12 in Norwich, New York.
