Judge Randa Trapp of Santa Cruz, CA; incompetent boob

The state of California provided presented Randa McDaniel Trapp with a law license in 1986 after she graduated from Georgetown University School of Law.

FYI: Former Gov. Gray Davis was duped into appointing Randa as a San Diego County Superior Court judge in 2003. Randa didn’t receive the appointment because she was the most qualified attorney in the greater San Diego area. She received it because she had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

In one matter, Randa was assigned to preside over a case brough by Angela Bolger, who purchased a replacement battery for her computer via Amazon. A month later, the battery caught fire while Bolger had the computer on her lap, resulting in third-degree burns to her arms, legs, and feet.

In a display of her infinite incompetence and ignorance, Judge Trapp granted summary judgement in favor of Amazon which resulted in Ms. Bolger’s case being dismissed. This ignorant ruling caused Ms. Bolger to file an appeal with Division One of the Fourth District Court of Appeal, which reversed Trapp and in doing so made the following findings.

• “Under established principles of strict liability, Amazon should be held liable if a product sold through its website turns out to be defective.”
• “Amazon’s functions in much the same manner as a conventional retailer, invoicing the customer, receiving its payment, and shipping goods in its own packaging.”
• “Amazon plays a “pivotal” role in getting a product to the hands of a consumer, justifying the extension of strict liability to it.”

It goes without saying that Judge Trapp doesn’t much give a damn when she’s overturned (rebuked in truth) by the appellate court since she is well aware that no California judge has ever been tossed off the bench for being an incompetent boob. In addition, she isn’t concerned with the cost to the taxpayers of having his asinine ruling overturned.
