LA Councilman Jose Huizar: Today’s “Public Official Misfit” Award Winner

FYI: Jose is another in a long list of loser attorneys that decided to go into politics after learning how difficult it was to earn a dishonest living practicing law after he graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law in 1998. Therefore, he decided to go into the second most ethical profession (used car salesman No. 1), politics.

In one matter, a federal grand jury recently returned a 34-count indictment on L.A. City Councilman Jose Huizar, who allegedly accepted more than $1 million in bribes. (Isai Rocha)

The criminal charges filed against Jose are as follows.

  • Conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act
  • 12 counts of honest services wire fraud
  • Two counts of honest services mail fraud
  • Four counts of traveling interstate in aid of racketeering
  • Six counts of bribery
  • Five counts of money laundering
  • One count of structuring cash deposits to conceal bribes
  • One count of making a false statement to a financial institution
  • One count of making false statements to federal law enforcement
  • One count of tax evasion

The Feds believe that Jose was the leader of a criminal enterprise wherein he used his position at City Hall to enrich himself and his close associates by accepting at least $1.5 million in bribes to accelerate various building developments throughout the city.

It is alleged that over $800,000 was paid by a Chinese billionaire who owns a hotel in Jose’s district. Allegedly, the billionaire gave Jose $600,000 in collateral to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit that was against Jose be a former staff member.

Jose also used family members to launder hundreds of thousands of dollars and instructed an assistant to falsify statements in a bank loan.

All that remains now is to see how long it takes for Jose to cop a plea to limit the amount of time he’ll be spending at the Folsom Penitentiary.

As we speak (ca. August 2020), it is rumored that Jose has applied for a job as a greeter at the Costco Store located at 2901 Los Feliz Blvd in Los Angeles, California.
