Barrister Marguerite Russell of England; ethical goblin

The Law Society presented Marguerite Russell with a Barristers license in 1972 after she graduated from the University of Bristol School of Law. 

The Bar Standards Board found Margie guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in conduct which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in her and/or the profession by acting in a rude and unprofessional manner towards a Judge
• Interrupted Prosecution Counsel’s submissions and/or continuing to make submissions and/or failing to sit down notwithstanding a request to do so by the Judge
• Shouting at the Judge and/or talking over other Counsel and/or failing to sit down notwithstanding requests to do so by the Judge
• Stating “this is ridiculous” following a ruling given by the Judge in response to submissions she had made
• Interrupted the Judge and/or argued with the Judge when she refused to accede to a submission she made and/or describing the Judge’s decision as “insane”
• Interrupting and/or arguing with and/or criticizing the Judge
• Interrupting proceedings and/or pulling faces at the Judge and/or acting in a manner that led to her being told to sit down by the Judge

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Barrister Misfits sitting on the Bar Standards Board punished Margie by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand and a fine of £1000 (1,286.00).

As we speak (ca. August 2020), Margie practices with the Garden Court Chambers at 57-60 Lincoln’s Inns Fields, in London, United Kingdom.
