Barrister Ian Wheaton of England; ethical troll

The Law Society presented Ian Malcolm James Wheaton with a Barristers license in 2002 after he graduated from the University of Bristol School of Law.

The Bar Standards Board found Ian guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Behaved in a way which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession
  • Failed to pay compensation of £600 ($769.00) to a former client as directed by the Legal Ombudsman (Screw you, said Ian!)
  • Failed to take reasonable steps to manage his practice competently and in such a way as to achieve compliance with his legal and regulatory obligations
  • Failed to give all reasonable assistance requested of him in connection with the determination of complaints made under the Ombudsman scheme (Up yours, said Ian!)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Barrister Misfits sitting on the Bar Standards Board punished Ian by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand and a fine of £1000 ($1,285.00.

As we speak (ca. August 2020), Ian practices with No. 18 Chambers at 21 Carlton Crescent in Southampton, Hampshire, United Kingdom.
