Appeals Court Judge Jerry L. Smith of Tennessee; drunk, lifetime porker

The state of Tennessee presented Jerry L. Smith with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from the University of Tennessee Law School

Since receiving his law license, Jerry has spent has dedicated his career to porking out at the public trough. From 1982 to 1995 Jerry was employed as an assistant/deputy attorney general.

In 1995 former Governor Don Sundquist was duped into appointing Jerry to a seat on the Criminal Court of Appeals. Jerry certainly wasn’t the most qualified attorney in Tennessee! Jerry received the appointment because over the years he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

On April 25 Jerry was arrested for driving under the influence while traveling from Nashville to Knoxville to attend oral arguments on several appeal cases. A Knoxville police sergeant stopped Jerry when he noticed him driving with his trunk wide open. When stopped, Jerry had a strong odor, slurred speech and was unable to perform standard field sobriety tests. Jerry then refused to take a blood alcohol test.

It would be difficult to believe that this was the first time that Jerry was driving drunk while being paid by the taxpayers. Jerry was soused in the morning when he was stopped

Jerry Decides to take a paid Vacation on the Taxpayer’s Dime

Jerry the lifetime porker had the chutzpah to announce that he was going to take a paid vacation while his DUI case is being prosecuted. Unfortunately, Administrative Judge Joseph M. Tipton approved of this raping of the Tennessee taxpayers.

If Judge Smith wants to sit on his significant derriere pending the outcome of his criminal DUI complaint, then he should be made to do it on his own dime and not that of the overtaxed citizens of Tennessee.

While on unpaid leave from the Court, I’m sure that Jerry could obtain employment as tour guide at the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

After Jerry’s pleads guilty to driving while under the influence, the sympathizers sitting on the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary will file misconduct charges against Jerry.

Given the sorry record of the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary in disciplining Judicial Misfits, I’m sure that Jerry the Drunk has nothing to worry about. At best he’ll receive a complimentary reprimand for his criminal conduct.
