Attorney Otha Nelson Sr. of Baton Rouge, LA; theif, repeat offender

The state of Louisiana presented Otha Curtis Nelson Sr. with a law license in 1972 after he graduated from Louisiana State University School of Law.

The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board found Otha guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

Otha’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Mishandled his trust account
  • Collected an excessive fee (thief)
  • Failed to turn over property and funds belonging to third parties
  • Failed to seek approval of his attorney’s fees in a workers’ compensation matter
  • Failed to refund unearned fees
  • Caused a mistrial by dismissing Caucasian jurors solely based on their race
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Otha!)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Otha by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

Otha’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to communicate with his client
  • Pursued claims that lacked any merit
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Charged an unreasonable fee (cheater)
  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Caused actual harm in the form of delays in proceedings and burdens upon opposing counsel and courts
  • Attack on the integrity of the judicial system potentially undermined the public trust and damaged the legal system in general

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Otha by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.
