Attorney Douglas Underwood of Monroe, NC; ethical troll

The state of North Carolina presented Douglas B. Underwood with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from North Carolina Central University of School of Law.

FYI: North Carolina Central University School of Law is ranked as the 168^th best law school in the country out of 200 ABA (American Bar Association) accredited law schools.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Doug guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
• Misconduct involved multiple offense
• Victim of misconduct was vulnerable
• Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Doug!)
• Failed to maintain a ledger for each person or entity for whom trust money was received
• Failed to reconcile his trust account quarterly
• Failed to maintain a ledge of attorney funds to service his trust account
• Failed to provide clients with written accountings at completion of disbursements
• Failed to perfect criminal appeals on behalf of his client after he was appointed to represent the client
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Doug by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 2-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the North Carolina Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Doug.
