Attorney James Schoenecker of Delavan, WI; greedy loser

The state of Wisconsin provided James Schoenecker with a law license in 2004 after he graduated from Columbia University School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation found Jimmy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

In on matter,  Jimmy and his girlfriend opened a joint checking account.  His girlfriend later obtained a home equity line of credit and made a loan of $48,500 to Jimmy. Jimmy executed a promissory note whereby he promised to repay the loan with interest.  Two days after making the loan, the girlfriend learned that Jimmy had made cash withdrawals from her checking account at a casino, resulting in a $1,500 negative balance in her account. 

Subsequently, the girlfriend was forced to sue Jimmy to collect the money she had loaned him. They eventually settled the matter with Jimmy agreeing to pay the girlfriend $32,000.00 to settle the entire matter.

Within a year of agreeing to the $32,000.00 settlement, Jimmy used his ex-girlfriend’s personal information to enter her business account without her permission and make checks payable to himself. Jimmy was able to cash a $950 check, but his attempt to cash two more check was not successful.

As a result of those actions, Jimmy was charged in two separate criminal proceedings.  He later pled guilty to one felony count of identity theft and was placed on two years of probation and ordered to make restitution and pay court costs.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Court punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2020), Jimmy practices at 617 East Walworth Avenue in Delavan, Wisconsin.
