Attorney Steven Shaw of Chicago; cheating scammer

The state of Illinois presented Steven Gary Shaw with a law license in 2010 after he graduated from Indiana University School of Law. Stevie also received a license to practice in Florida in 2008.

The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission found Stevie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Agreed to represent client at hourly rate of $100 in a marriage dissolution matter, however he presented client with a bill reflecting an hourly rate of $175
  • When client confronted Stevie about the overbilling, he backdated the agreement to reflect $175
  • Improperly billed client 26.5 hours at $175 instead of the contractually agreed to $100
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or misrepresentation
  • Knowingly made false statement to ethics investigators (Screw you, said Stevie!)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Stevie by gifting him with a complimentary 3-month suspension of his law license.

As one would suspect, Stevie and his firm fail to mention the misconduct set forth above on their self-serving website at www.handlerthayer.com. Apparently, they decided to conceal this relevant information from prospective clients so that he would not limit his future victim pool.

As we speak (ca. May 2020), Stevie practices with Handler Thayer LLP at 191 North Wacker Drive in Chicago, Illinois.
