Judge Nicole Hesler of Quebec, CAN; ethical dwarf

The Law Society of Quebec presented Nicole Duval Hesler with a law license in 1968 after she graduated from McGill University School of Law.

The chief judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba and the vice-chair of the Judicial Conduct Committee, Glenn Joyal found Judge Hesler guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Heard an appeal hearing of the first challenge to the law (Bill 21) that forbids the wearing of religious symbols by certain provincial employees in positions of authority.
  • The plaintiffs accused the judge of bias because of comments she made that they said were hostile toward the law known as Bill 21 (ban on religious symbols)
  • Told lawyers who opposed Bill 21 that she wanted to have a third career and they may need an arbitrator in the future
  • Promised to speak at a conference in front of an association of Jewish jurists openly opposed to Bill 21

Rather than await an outcome on the pending ethics charges, Nicole did what any well-respect ethical dwarf would do, she resigned.

As we speak (ca. July 2020), it is rumored that Judge Hesler has applied for a job as a greeter at the Walmart Supercenter Store at 224 Av Joseph-Casavant, Quebec, Canada.
