Attorney Gilles Doré of Montreal; victim of Arrogant Judiciary
While he was arguing a client’s case before the Quebec Superior Court, the judge criticized Doré. Subsequently, Doré wrote a private letter to the judge calling him:
Eventually the Barreau du Québec (Bar of Quebec) charged Doré with misconduct and suspended his law license for 21 days for violating the so-called Code of ethics of advocates.
Doré appealed the suspension on the grounds that it infringed his freedom of expression. As expected the Quebec Superior Court and Court of Appeals upheld the suspension.
Anyone that has dealt with the judiciary in Quebec or elsewhere is well aware that most of them are arrogant, unjust, pompous and incompetent. Therefore, Doré was merely speaking the truth.
To suggest that anyone, including lawyers and barristers should be required to show respect to someone that is totally unfit to don a robe is absurd. To punish someone for speaking the truth about a Judicial Misfit is totally unjust and nothing more than an ugly attempt by Canada’s judiciary to silence those who have the courage to speak the truth.
