Attorney Glen Houston of Hobbs, NM; ethical troll, repeat offender

 

The state of New Mexico presented Glen L. Houston with a law license in 1955 after he graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law.

 

The New Mexico Disciplinary Board found Torrey guilty of the following misconduct.

 

Glen’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Engaged in a conflict of interest involving one or more clients

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Mexico Supreme Court punished Glen by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

 

Glen’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Glen’s representation of wife was materially limited by his representation of husband is reflected not only in the custody and visitation provisions of the decree
  • Failed to provide tax benefits to wife for supporting the children during husband's incarceration
  • Engaged in an egregious conflict of interest
  • Failed to advise wife that failure to permit husband to have unsupervised visitation in accordance with the decree could subject her to criminal charges of custodial interference
  • Glen clearly protected husband's interests to the disadvantage of his client, the wife, by entering a decree containing joint custody and unsupervised visitation provisions, knowing husband had beaten wife and sexually abused his daughter
  • Divorce decree had not been entered when the battery and criminal sexual penetration charges were filed
  • Although Glen was fully aware of the battery and child molestation charges, he failed to consult with wife about making changes in the divorce decree, and did not seek to have restrictions placed on the husband's custody status or visitation
  • Glen’s deplorable inaction on wife’s behalf to a him to preparing and filing a decree providing for husband to have joint legal custody of the children and unsupervised visitation
  • Failed to keep clients informed about status of their claim
  • Failed to comply with client information requests
  • Failed to provide sufficient information to the clients to permit them to make informed decisions regarding the representation
  • Abdicated his responsibility to consult with clients concerning their case
  • Failed to properly supervise office staff
  • Aided nonlawyer to engage in illegal practice of law
  • Failed to inform several clients of his personal bankruptcy filing
  • Never consulted with his clients to determine if they wanted to file an objection to discharge in the bankruptcy proceeding, nor were they informed that their claim could be lost if a discharge was entered in bankruptcy without an objection to discharge being granted for their claim

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Mexico Supreme Court punished Glen by gifting him with a complimentary 18-month suspension of his law license.

 

As we speak (ca. January 2021), Glen practices with G. Houston & Associates LTD at 1304 West Broadway Place in Hobbs, New Mexico.
