Attorney Michael Barton of Springfield, IL; lying scammer

The state of Illinois presented Michael Glenn Barton with a law license in 1983 after he graduated from the University of Illinois School of Law.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Mikey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Drafted estate planning documents for a client but did not communicate with the client about how the documents would alter the client’s estate plan
  • Signed planning documents as a witness, and directed his secretary to sign the documents as a witness, although neither of them had seen the client sign the documents
  • Mikey also notarized the estate planning documents, falsely claiming that the client had appeared before him and had acknowledged signing the documents
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Counsel punished Mikey by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As one would suspect, Mikey fails to mention the aforementioned misconduct on his website at www.bellatti-barton.com. Apparently, Mikey chose to conceal this relevant information from prospective clients for the purpose of not limiting his future victim pool.

As we speak (ca. June 2020), Mikey practices with Bellatti, Barton, Cochran & White LLC at 944 Clock Tower Drive in Springfield, Illinois.
