Attorney Brian B. Burke of Milwaukee; convicted felon

The state of Wisconsin presented Brian B. Burke with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from Georgetown University Law School.

From 1988 until Jan 2003, Brian was an elected State Senator. During his tenure as a state senator, Brian decided he wanted to run for the Attorney General’s office. As a state senator, Brian supervised and oversaw extensive work of state employees performing acts to further his campaign for attorney general, illegally using public resources over which he had total control.

In late 2005, in accordance with a plea agreement with the State, Brian entered a guilty plea to one count of misconduct in public office, a Class E felony, and one count of obstructing an officer, a Class A misdemeanor.

After becoming a convicted felon, the Supreme Court of Wisconsin revoked Brian’s law license. However, because Attorney Misfits are held to a lower standard of conduct then everyone else, the Court reinstated Brian’s law license.

Here we have a criminal who was convicted by the state of Wisconsin for stealing from the state now employed by the same state. The folks running the Public Defender’s Office in Wisconsin appear to be running a welfare program for crooked attorneys who are unable to find gainful employment elsewhere.

As we speak (ca. April 2012) Brian works as a state paid defense attorney with the State Public Defender’s Trial Office in Milwaukee.
