Judge C. Winston Gilchrist of Lillington, NC; cheerleader for attorney thieves

The state of North Carolina provided C. Winston Gilchrist with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

Former Gov. Bev Perdue was duped into appointing Winston as a Superior Court judge in November 2012. Winston didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Harnett, Johnston and Lee Counties. He received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

In one matter, Mark decided to become involved in the case of disbarred attorney Michael Yopp’s attempt to have his law license reinstated. For more information on Yopp, visit the URL at the end of this article.

Mr. Yopp was found guilty by the Committee on Professional Conduct of stealing from his clients and as a result of his egregious misconduct, he was disbarred by the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Judge Gilchrist laughingly testified as follows on behalf of disgraced attorney Michael Yopp.

  • “He would be an asset for the practice of law within our district.”
  • “He’s extremely intelligent, professional and I have respect for him.
  • “If reinstated, I think that Mike would do your profession credit, I sincerely believe that, if you would allow him to practice again.”

A thieving attorney would be an asset for the legal profession in the Harnett, Johnston and Lee Counties. I doubt that Yopp’s victims are of the same opinion. How does anyone claim to have respect for a lawyer who cheerfully stole from his clients?

Hopefully, Mr. Yopp and/or someone acting on is behalf reimbursed Judge Gilchrist for the costs he incurred in purchasing a pair of Industrial Strength Knee Pads to protect himself from the time he spent genuflecting on behalf of Yopp.

As we speak (ca. April 2020), Gilchrist continues to sit as a 11A Judicial District Judge of the Fourth Division of the Superior Court in Lillington, North Carolina.
