Attorney Wesley Lang of Kaysville, UT; rubber check aficionado, thief

The State of Utah provided Wesley M. Lang with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from the University of Utah School of Law.

The Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme Court found Wesley guilty of the following misconduct.

• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to safeguard client funds
• Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation
• Submitted false hourly billing statements to a firm in order to manipulate how his compensation would be calculated (thief)
• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Failed to maintain complete records of client funds deposited into his trust account and operating account and preserve them for five years after the client representation concluded
• Wrote at least eight (8) bad checks (rubber) to the U.S. Patent Office
• Issuing rubber checks caused delay in the processing of six provision and nonprovisional patent applications and the abandonment of one application for
• six different clients

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Utah Supreme Court punished Wesley by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license.

Because Attorney Misfits in Utah are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Wesley was never criminally charged with writing bad checks.
