Judge Kim Chaney of Cullman, AL; nepotism champion

The state of Alabama provided Kim Chaney with a law license in 1986 after he graduated from the Birmingham School of Law.

FYI: Kim has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past thirty-two (32) years. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Cullman County area was about to offer him a good paying job.

The Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission charged Kim with engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Appointed his son to more than 200 indigent cases
  • Personally, took judicial actions in some of his son’s cases
  • Personal intervention in son’s cases involved hearing motions, entering orders and granting and approving fee declarations on his son’s behalf
  • Took judicial actions in some of his son’s cases even though he was disqualified
  • Failed to uphold the independence of the judiciary
  • Failed to comply with the law (scofflaw)
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Allowed his family relationships to influence his judicial conduct or judgment
  • Made unnecessary appointments of his son
  • Engaged in naked nepotism

It should be noted, that in an astounding bit of incompetence and ignorance, Gov. Robert Bentley was duped into appointing Kem to serve as a member of the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission in 2012. The Commission is in the business of investigating judicial misconduct.

While the misconduct charges were pending, Kim did what any coward would do, he resigned rather than try to defend the indefensible.

As we speak (ca. March 2020), it is rumored that Kim has filed an application for a job as a greeter at the Walmart Supercenter Store located at 626 Oliver Street SW in Cullman, Alabama.
