Judge Ana M. Pando of Hialeah, FL; lifetime porker, ethical elf

The state of Florida presented Ana M. Pando with a law license in 1988 after she graduated from the University of Miami Law School.

Ana Pando has been sitting on the bench in Miami-Dade County since 2001. Shortly after receiving her law license, Ana spent the next 12 or so years working as a Public Defender and as an assistant DA for the Miami City Attorney’s Office.

In early 2012, the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission (FJQC) filed misconduct charges against Ana for abusing her judicial position.

Ana found it acceptable to send a letter on judicial letterhead to the state Division of Corporations urging the agency to reinstate a corporation owned or controlled by a friend and campaign contributor.

This is what is called payback to a contributor that obviously knew that he could rely on Ana once she became a judge. This conduct is also referred to as “quid pro quo.”

And this isn’t Ana’s 1st bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree. In 2005 the Florida Supreme Court gifted Ana with a complimentary reprimand for accepting improper campaign contributions.

Given the Judicial Commissions abysmal record in meting out real punishment to Judicial Misfits, including repeat offenders like Ana; she’ll likely receive another complimentary reprimand from the Commission and/or the Florida Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. April 2012) Ana remains sitting as a Miami-Dade Superior Court Judge.
