Congratulations to….
Chief Justice John Roberts
Today’s “Screwball” Award Winner
As we all know, the Supreme Court has been hearing oral arguments for the past three days (March 26-28) in regards to whether Obamacare is constitutional. The main point of contention is the mandate that would require everyone to purchase health insurance or pay a fine.
During oral arguments, Johnny seized on the opportunity to further establish his credentials as one of America’s finest Screwballs. In commenting on the mandate, Screwy Johnny said,
“If I understand the law, the policies that you’re requiring people to purchase must contain provision for maternity and newborn care, pediatric services, and substance abuse treatment. It seems to me that you cannot say that everybody is going to need substance abuse treatment or pediatric services, and yet that is part of what you require them to purchase.”
Screwy John’s argument would suggest that when purchasing insurance, buyers can “cherry pick” the coverage they want. If Johnny’s hyperbolic (BS) comment were true, then why couldn’t we refuse to pay for the following coverage?
Of course it goes without saying that if everyone could “cherry pick” the coverage they wanted for health insurance, the premiums for pediatric services and/or substance abuse would skyrocket.
Congrats Johnny; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of America’s most accomplished Screwballs; you are far too humble.
