Attorney Gilbert M. Hargrave of Athens, TX; repeat offender, flimflam man

The state of Texas presented Gilbert M. Hargrave with a law license in 1984 after he graduated from the University of Houston.

In early 2011, the State Bar of Texas found Hargrave guilty of the following misconduct:
  • Failed to withdraw from representing a client when he was mentally impaired (nuts)
  • When fired he failed to return advance payment of fees he didn’t earn (chiseler)
This wasn’t Gilbert’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. In 1998 Gilbert received a four-year fully probated suspension after being found guilty of engaging in a plethora of misconduct.

As a consequence of his most recent misconduct, the apologists sitting on the State Bar of Texas punished Gilbert by gifting him with a two-year, partially probated suspension, with nine months actively suspended.

Is there any wonder that the good people of Texas have absolutely no respect for the attorney discipline process? When a lawyer makes multiple trips to the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree, he/she should be permanently disbarred.

As we speak (ca. March 2012) Hargrave practices law in Athens, Texas.
