Attorney William Shilling of Murphy, NC; bully, repeat offender

 

The state of North Carolina provided William R. Shilling with a law license in 2004 after he graduated from the University of Florida School of Law.

 

The Committee on Professional Conduct found Billy guilty of the following misconduct.

 

Billy’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Placed misleading advertisement on his website that he falsely claimed was endorsed by the State Bar
  • Improperly advertised that he was a child welfare law specialist without including the proper language

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

 

Billy’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • On several occasions, Billy drank to excess at his home and became verbally abusive with his wife and minor son
  • Following a 2011 domestic dispute, Billy threatened his wife Cheryl thereby causing her and their minor son to leave their residence
  • Upon advice of counsel, Cheryl began recording Billy’s abusive outbursts
  • During a 2013 incident, Billy over his son’s homework, Billy destroy his son’s cellphone and threatened to physically assault him, including multiple threats to punch his son’s face causing injury
  • Threatened to punish his son if he did not receive a perfect grade on a scheduled test
  • Threatened his son by saying, “Keep mumbling, I’ll break that jaw so they’ll have to wire it shut. Swear to fucking God.”
  • When his son tried to extricate himself from the corner, using his arm to try and push past Billy, Billy punched him in the abdomen with his fist and then shoved him against the wall
  • Before leaving the residence, Billy said to his son, "1 think maybe this weekend you and I should place everything you own in the front yard, pour gasoline
  • on it and burn it, except for your mattress, including the dog."
  • A Deputy Sheriff dispatched to the home after Cheryl called 911 to report that Billy had punched their minor son
  • Billy arrested on charges of misdemeanor child abuse and communicating threats
  • Plead guilty to child abuse and communicating threats in the Macon County District Court
  • Billy and his wife Cheryl consented to the entry of a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO) order in favor of Cheryl
  • Within three months of the DVPO order, Billy was arrested for violating same and was subsequently tried by a jury and found guilty of violating the DVPO
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license.

 

As we speak (ca. February 2020) Billy practices at 10 Tennessee Street in Murphy, North Carolina.
