Attorney Charles Arthur Jr. of Reading, MA; cheating loser

The state of Massachusetts presented Charles R. Arthur Jr. with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from the New England School of Law.

The Board of Bar Overseers found Charlie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Negligently misused client funds
  • Failed to promptly turn over funds when due
  • Failed to communicate in writing before or within a reasonable time after the commencement of the representation the scope of the representation and the basis or rate of his fee
  • Charged the client at his legal rate for non-legal services (cheater)
  • Charged his client $325 per hour for non-legal services such as caring for the client’s pets, accompanying the client to doctor’s appointments, and attending the client’s funeral
  • On at least six occasions, withdrew fees from his client’s funds for the purpose of paying legal fees he had not yet earned
  • Failed to provide client in writing an itemized bill or accounting showing the services rendered, the amount and date of withdrawals from the client trust account and the remaining balance of the client’s funds
  • Prepared a durable power of attorney for the client, naming himself as the client’s attorney-in-fact; a will naming himself as the client’s personal representative; and a
  • health care proxy
  • Failed to promptly turn over to the beneficiaries or to the special representative of his client’s estate the funds that were due them
  • Failed to enter into a written contingent fee agreement with the client
  • Failed to main copy of his written contingent fee agreement for a period of seven years after the conclusion of the representation

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Board of Overseers punished Charlie by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As one would suspect, Charlie fails to mention the misconduct set forth above on his self-serving website at www.charlesarthurlaw.com. Apparently, he decided to conceal this relevant information from prospective clients to assure that he would not limit her future victim pool.

As we speak (ca. November 2019) Charlie practices with the Arthur Law Offices at 125 Main Street in Reading, Massachusetts.
