Attorney Cynthia Smith of Georgetown, TX; ethical troll
The state of Texas presented Cynthia Borgfeld Smith with a law license in 1991 after she graduated from the University of Texas School of Law.
The District 8 Grievance Committee found Cynthia guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.
-
Failed to contact her client for four months
-
After Cynthia met with her client for the purpose of signing final paperwork evidencing an agreement between the client and her ex-husband, she failed to file the final paperwork with the court and failed to return any of the client’s attempts to communicate with Smith
-
Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Cynthia!)
-
Ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to her client [victim]
-
Failed to file the necessary pleadings for several months in child custody matter
-
Client unable to reach Cynthia concerning status of her child custody matter and the filing of pleadings
-
Cynthia subsequently fired by child custody client and requested return of unearned fees
-
Cynthia advised the client she would refund the unearned fees but failed to do so
-
Ordered to pay $2,500 restitution to child custody client [victim]
As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Cynthia by gifting her with a complimentary stayed 1-year suspension of her law license and ordered that she pay $5,112.00 in ethics investigative costs.
As we speak (ca. June 2021), Cynthia practices her brand of law with the Law Offices of Cynthia Borgfeld at 3008 Dawn Drive in Georgetown, Texas.
