Attorney Douglas Chiasson of British Columbia, CAN; repeat offender

The Law Society of British Columbia presented Douglas B. Chiasson with a law license in 1990 after he graduated from the University of British Columbia School of Law.

The British Columbia Law Society Disciplinary Counsel found Doug of engaging in the following misconduct.

Doug’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to take any substantive steps to advance clients’ claims
  • Failed to provide client with progress updates
  • Failed to respond to client information requests
  • Continued to act on client’s behalf without communicating with his client and after being fired
  • Improperly withdrew funds from trust account to pay his fees
  • Should have known he was not entitled to 25% of total amount recovered on client’s behalf
  • Contingency fee agreement did not entitle him to any percentage of costs, and, if it did, the agreement would have been contrary to the Legal Profession Act

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Law Society punished Doug by gifting him with a complimentary $4,500 fine plus $1,000.00 in costs.

  • Failed to provide the Client with progress updates as to the status of her file
  • Failed to make all reasonable efforts to provide prompt service to the client

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Law Society punished Doug by gifting him with a complimentary $3,500 fine plus $1,000.00 in costs.
