The California Supreme Court presented Ulysses L. Cook, Jr. with a law license in
In 2010 the State Bar Court found Cook guilty of misconduct in his handling of a client’s worker’s compensation case.
In that case, cook settled the matter for $105,000. Previously the client had retained another attorney, who executed a lien when Cook took over the case.
The Worker’s Compensation Appeals Board ordered that Cook receive $15,000 as attorney fees but that he adjust his fees with the prior attorney. However, Cook never notified the other attorney of the award or the order of the Appeals Board.
When the attorney learned of the settlement he left a telephone message at Cook’s office and later wrote a letter to him about the fees her was owed, but Cook never responded.
A month later, the attorney filed a complaint with the State Bar about Cook’s refusal to pay or negotiate the lien. Subsequently, Cook paid the attorney $2,500.
As a consequence of his misconduct the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Cook by gifting him with a complimentary two years of probation.
As we speak (ca. March 2012) Cook practices law at 3255 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles.
