Judge April Smith of Fayetteville, NC; ethical goblin

The state of North Carolina provided April A. Smith with a law license in 2009 after she graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law.

It should be noted that April succeeded in duping the voters in the greater Fayetteville area into electing her as a Judge of the General Court of Justice, District

Court Division, Judicial District Twelve in November 2014.

The North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission on Judicial Performance found April guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Conduct brought judicial office into disrepute
• Demonstrated lack of respect for the judicial office and for the Chief District Judge
• Failed to facilitate the administrative duties of the Chief Judge and court staff
• Repeatedly and regularly making disparaging comments about the Chief Judge to other judges, judicial staff, clerical staff, and members of the local bar
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to avoid impropriety
• Failed to act in manner promoting public confidence in the judiciary
• Failed to properly discharge her judicial duties
• Failed to respect and comply with the law
• Failed to be patient, dignified and courteous to litigants, jurors, witnesses, lawyers and others with whom she dealt with in her official judicial capacity

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the North Carolina Supreme Court punished April by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. July 2019), April continues to sit as a Judge of the General Court of Justice, District Court Division, Judicial District Twelve in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
