Appeals Judge Jim Sharp of Houston; ethical leprechaun, arrogant

Unfortunately for the good folks living in the Houston area, Jim Sharp sits on the Court of Appeals in Brazoria County.

In early 2012, the Texas Judicial Commission lodged misconduct charges against Judge Jim Sharp for attempting to influence the outcome of a case involving a friend’s 15-year-old daughter who had been arrested for shoplifting. Jimmy is also charged for sending inappropriate texts and profane voice messages to county employees, a state district judge and a Brazoria County commissioner. (Houston Chronicle, Brian Hughes)

As to the 15-year-old girl, Jimmy mouthed off to Brazoria County Commission: text message
  • “You don’t release a 15 yr old accused of simple shoplifting (bra and jeans) to their parents on the request of an Appeals Ct. Justice. Serious problems there, Dude. Call me pronto please.”
  • “You’ll have picked the wrong little girl that has friends in high places to mess with.”
Sample of Jimmy’s oversized ego and mouth are as follows:
  • “You guys are a bunch of backwoods hillbillies that use screwed-up methods in dealing with children, and I can promise you this: Things are about to change in Brazoria County.”
  • “I am a judge in the Court of Appeals. I have authority over your judges along with every other judge in 10 counties in this area.”
  • “If I had been there in person and had a baseball bat that [expletive] would have been cracked upside the head.” (Voicemail attached to recusal motion)

Arrogance 101

“Brazoria County Juvie folks are not just arrogant but ignorant! When an Appeals Court Justice calls and identifies himself and they refer to me as ‘Mr.’ Sharp, it bespeaks a fundamental misunderstanding of respect and pecking order!”

Given the past conduct of the Judicial Commission acting as enablers for Judicial Misfits, I seriously doubt that the Dishonorable Jimmy Sharp has much to worry about.

Time will tell if Judge Jim Sharp is held to a lower standard of conduct then everyone else in the Houston area.
