Judge Ariadne Symons of Santa Cruz, CA; ethical goblin

The State of California presented Ariadne J. Elizabeth Symons with a law license in 1993 after she graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law.

The Commission on Judicial Performance found Ariadne guilty of the engaging in the following misconduct.

• Excluded defense from information during criminal trial
• Prohibited public defender from written communication with jury before guilty verdict rendered
• Violated a party’s due process rights to be heard
• Med biased remarks to a man facing a restraining order
• Made impertinent remarks to litigants in the courtroom
• Held illegal ex parte (one-sided) communications
• Failed to uphold the integrity of the judiciary
• Failed to behave in manner promoting public confidence in the judiciary
• Refused to take responsibility for running red light despite photos proving she did
• Exhibited egregious disregard for the dignity of the very court where she serves

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Ariadne’s First bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree. She previously received a complimentary admonishment for engaging in a variety of improper behavior.

As a direct consequence of her misconduct the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Judge Symons by gifting her with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. May 2019) Symons continues to sit as a Santa Cruz County Superior Court judge in Santa Cruz, California.
