Former Judge C. Hunter King of New Orleans; perjurer, certified Dumbo

While sitting on the Court in New Orleans, Judge C. Hunter King was charged with unlawful campaign fundraising, which is set forth below.

Judge C. Hunter King (the Kingfish) has to be one of the dumbest liars I’ve come across. His days were numbered when court reporter, Barbara Wallace secretly tape recorded the Kingfish demanding that she sell fund-raising tickets for his upcoming campaign.

Ms. Wallace filed a complaint against the Kingfish, because he fired her for refusing to sell tickets to a campaign fund-raising event on his behalf. She further alleged that the reasons given for her termination in the Kingfish’s termination letter were false (perjured) and that she could prove it.

The Kingfish’s written answer to complaint

In his ten-page response to Ms. Wallace’s complaint, the Kingfish denied he required any court staff to engage in unlawful campaign activity, and he stated that Ms. Wallace was not fired, but that she resigned.

The Kingfish’s answer also contained the following false statements:
  1. The complaint is nothing more than an unprincipled, retaliatory attack on a respected Judge by a disgruntled former employee. Respected Judge?
  2. Wallace’s employment was not conditioned on her participating in fund raising activities. She’s lying!
  3. I never told her to sell 20 tickets, much less one.
  4. I specifically remember telling my staff in a meeting, that none of them could “push” tickets during work hours or on court premises.
  5. No employees sold tickets
After the Kingfish gave these false replies, and after Ms. Wallace sent the investigators transcripts of four staff meetings along with copies of the tapes proving he was a liar, the investigators took the Kingfish’s testimony. The tapes clearly proved he was lying.

The Kingfish’s Mea Culpa

After being provided with the transcripts and tapes provided by Ms. Wallace, the Kingfish knew his ass was in considerable trouble. The Kingfish admitted to making the statements attributed to him in the transcripts.

He further admitted that he made false statements in his answer to the complaint and while testifying (perjury), which he knew were false or misleading and which were material to the issues being investigated.

The Kingfish selling tickets at a funeral

The Kingfish took the novel step of selling tickets to his fund raiser at a funeral and told his staff: “You saw what we did just the other day when we went to a funeral. Now, a funeral clearly ain’t no place where you hustle no damn tickets, but we did it tactful.”
How do you tactfully sell fundraising tickets at a funeral? I know its okay to lean on dead voters in Chicago, but I didn’t know it was kosher to hit up mourners for campaign cash at a funeral. Well, it’s Louisiana; what can I tell ya you that don’t already know?

The Kingfish’s defense
The Kingfish presented character evidence in the form of affidavits from judges and attorneys. Gotta wonder who these idiots were, don’t ya?

When asked to defend the lies, the Kingfish said: “Well, I should have known that it was wrong. And sometimes, unfortunately, fear has a tendency to cloud one’s judgment. And clearly in this instance, fear and being a part of this very intimidating process did that . . . I just panicked. I’d never been, I guess, on this side of the equation.”

Fear of the unknown made you repeatedly give false testimony and fabricate false facts. Bullshit! Fear of loosing a cushy-do-nothing job paying more than your legal talent deserved is what you feared.

The Kingfish further explained that he thought his testimony would be limited to the allegation that he wrongfully terminated Ms. Wallace. He then said, given this assumption, he didn’t think he committed perjury when he lied in response to other questions. Now this jerk is really an idiot, right?

The seminal question here is, how in the hell did this ethically and intellectually impoverished Dumbo ever become a judge.

Commission’s enabling comments

  1. This group of idiots gave the Kingfish credit for the following reasons:
  2. He was a new judge when the ethical misconduct occurred (As opposed to being a seasoned liar?)
  3. Admitted the acts occurred, but not until he was told his misconduct could be reviewed by an audiotape (How in the hell do you get credit for this forced mea culpa?)

Commission’ recommended punishment

This same group of idiots recommended that the Kingfish be suspended for one year.

The commission noted that during his suspension the Kingfish would be prohibited from practicing law, and that he would be deprived of his judicial salary of $100,000, which would work a severe hardship on him.   Damn, that kinda breaks your heart, doesn’t it?

The Louisiana Supreme Court ignored the recommendations of the Judicial Commission and ordered that the Kingfish be immediately removed from the bench.

An unreliable source indicated that the Kingfish is presently employed as a fund-raising consultant for Newt Gingrich.
