Former Judge Patrick B. Murphy of Los Angeles; serial deciever and liar

The California Supreme Court provided Patrick B. Murphy with a law license in 1984 after he graduated from the Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles.

During his insignificant tenure as a Superior Court Judge in Los Angles, the Judicial Commission charged Pat with the following misconduct.

Phobia against judicial work

Pat had the gall to claim that a “phobia” of the court left him unfit to resume his duties on the bench.

Fortunately for Pat (not so for the taxpayers) his phobia allowed him to teach law classes, take exams, explore new career opportunities and begin medical school in the Caribbean while collecting his salary. How cool is that?

Murphy sightings

Despite Pat’s feigned inability to work (judicial phobia), there were numerous “Murphy sightings” — instances in which Pat was seen, in the public (in good health) during times he claimed he was too ill to work.

One witness testified to seeing Murphy at three Christmas pageants at the school where she and Pat had children attending. These three “Murphy Sightings” took place while Pat claimed he was too ill to work.

At one point, an eviction notice was posted on Pat’s chamber door—on a real Sheriff’s form. Unfortunately, Pat didn’t show up, so the posting was unenforceable.

It’s off to medical school

While claiming to be too ill to take the bench, Pat entered a medical school on the Caribbean island nation of Dominica, with plans to become a physician (proctologist), at a time when he was contemplating filing for disability retirement.

Pat and Scientology

From 1995-1997, Pat took trips to England and Germany to give speeches under the auspices of “Criminon,” an offender rehab program linked to the Church of Scientology.

Pat was quoted in the German edition of Freedom as saying: “Through the technologies of L. Ron Hubbard, I now have the ability to effect significant changes among lawbreakers and make it possible for them to lead honest, productive lives—a result of their participation in the ‘Way to Happiness’ program—a program built on Hubbard’s code of non-religious moral principles.”

How sick is this? Who in their right mind would employ Pat to preach changes among lawbreakers? It’s pretty clear that Pat was preaching to the choir, right?

Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia

Pat testified that a combination of physical, psychological and emotional problems disabled him and caused him to miss hundreds of days of court time.

He further testified that even though he was left exhausted and in physical pain by a combination of Epstein-Barr virus, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, it was an emotional problem that kept him from resuming his judicial duties. He said doctors told him his desire to excel in his job created a phobia that prevented him from serving at all.

There’s no dispute that Patty “excelled in his job” of screwing the taxpayers by failing to perform the judicial services he was being paid for. There’s also no doubt that he was an efficient thief; however, he was also a dumb bastard, which is a fatal combination when you’ve dedicated your career to defrauding the public.

Pat said he “vacillated” repeatedly between planning to resign his judgeship, applying for permanent disability (wanted to but knew “judicial phobia” wouldn’t work) and pressing on with trying to resume his duties (couldn’t because of work phobia).

Pat’s Hyperbolic (BS) comments

Pat said he thought his lawyer had already applied for disability retirement, which he believed would have prevented him from ever serving as a judge or attorney.

Well, we know that’s not true because if being mentally disabled were a disqualifier, then there would be 90% vacancy rate for judgeships.

Pat said everything he did was with the intention of acting in the best interests of the court as well as himself. Sure he did!

He acknowledged that, in retrospect, he failed as it related to the court but made up for that failure by doing pretty damn well for himself. Good job Patty!

Pat also testified that his doctors found him to be permanently disabled as early as April 1999. But he said he didn’t accept the diagnosis and insisted on trying to return to a job he said he loved (screwing the taxpayers).

Pat said he sought psychiatric care and said he was told he suffered panic attacks and a phobic disorder triggered by being in the courtroom. I’m sure the thought of being in the courtroom while being sentenced for his crimes caused Patty to suffer panic attacks.

He said he was told “I am hyper-vigilant.” This trait may well be quite useful to Pat if he’s sentenced to Folsom for the serial frauds he perpetrated on the state.

Costs of Pat’s fraud to taxpayers

The costs borne by Californians as a result of ex-Gov. Pete Wilson’s appointment of Murphy in 1993 is as follows:
  • Paid 450 sick days at $460 a day – total = $207,000
  • Costs of replacement judges at $460 a day = $207,000
  • Costs of disciplinary action = $50,000 (est.)
From the time he was removed, the state paid about $1.1 million in wages to this crook. Of that amount, he stole at least 50% by feigning illnesses and tending to personal affairs on state time.

The total costs to the state for Pete Wilson’s unwise choice of selecting this ethical and intellectual dwarf likely exceeded $2 million.

No criminal punishment

Pat was never criminally prosecuted for filing false disability claims. He was never forced to pay back the $200,000 he obtained from the State by falsely claiming he was too ill to work. This only further proves that Judicial Misfits are held to a lower standard of conduct then everyone else.

Who was the Dumbo that said crime doesn’t pay? He certainly must have meant to exclude “judicial crime,” right?
