Attorney Paul Smith of Austin, TX; check bouncer

The state of Texas presented Paul Andrew Smith with a law license in 1999 after he graduated from the University of Texas School of Law.

The District 9 Grievance Committee found Paulie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Wrote $1,000 check to medical provider on insufficient funds account (rubber)
  • After the doctor filed ethics complaint, Paulie issued him a check that didn’t bounce

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Paulie by gifting him with a complimentary 1-month suspension of his law license.

Because Attorney Misfits in Texas are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Paulie was never charged with writing a bad check.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Paulie practices with the Law Offices of Paul A. Smith at 4701 Staggerbrush Road in Austin, Texas.
