Judge Joseph Filip of Jackson, MI; ethical troll

The state of Michigan provided provided Joseph S. Filip a law license in 1973 after he graduated from William & Mary University School of Law.

Former Gov. Jennifer Granholm was duped into appointing Terry as a Livingston County District Court judge in 2005. Terry didn’t get the appointment because she was the most qualified attorney in the greater Brighton area. She received it because she had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks. 

The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission found Joey guilty of the following misconduct.

It should be noted that Joey has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for thirty-four (34) years (ca. 1973-1992 and 2004-2019).  

• Engaged in illegal ex parte (one-sided) communications with assistant prosecutor
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Failed to observe high standards of conduct
• Engaged in improper conduct which erodes public confidence in the judiciary
• Failed to respect and observe the law [scofflaw]
• Exposed the legal profession or courts to contempt
• Exhibited a lack of personal  responsibility  for  his  own  behavior  and  for  the  proper  conduct  and  administration  of  the  court  in  which  he  presides
• Failed to be patient, dignified and courteous to lawyers and others appearing before him

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Joey by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Joey continues to sit as a Jackson County, 12^th District Court judge in Jackson, Michigan.
