Judge William E. Abbott of Palmyra, NY; bullying loser

The Judicial Commission found Billy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Lent the prestige of judicial office to advance private interests by invoking his judicial position while asking the police for assistance in unlocking his personal vehicle and threatening to refuse to do arraignments in the future
  • Improperly invoked his judicial office when asking the Newark Police Department (NDP) to assist him in unlocking his vehicle
  • It was against Newark’s policy to unlock an individual’s car
  • Had the chutzpah to call 911 and spoke with Patricia Latta, an NPD clerk and asked her to send police personnel to unlock his personal vehicle
  • Ms. Latta informed Billy that, pursuant to NPD policy, the police did not respond to requests to unlock cars unless it  was an emergency, such as when a child is locked inside the vehicle
  • Ms. Latta offered to contact a local automotive garage to assist Billy
  • Billy’s responded Ms. Latta with the following threat.

"I am Judge Abbott of Palmyra and I just won't do any arraignments for you anymore.”

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Billy continues to sit as a Justice of the Palmyra Town Court and an Associate Justice of the Palmyra Village Court (Wayne County) in Palmyra New York.
