Attorney Veronica Reyes of Aurora, CO; ethical goblin

The state of Colorado presented Veronica Reyes with a law license in 2010 after she graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law.

Disciplinary Counsel found Veronica guilty of the following misconduct.

• Failed communicate with the client
• Failed to explain a matter so as to permit the client to make in-formed decisions regarding the representation
• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Failed to maintain certain records relating to trust accounts and client billing
• Failed to client’s interests upon termination of the representation
• Failed to properly communicate how the family’s daughter could adjust her immigration status
• Consistently failed to place client funds in a trust account and to keep records of the funds she received from the family
• Failed to properly supervise her sister in accordance with her duties regarding nonlawyer assistants
• Failed to keep an appropriate recordkeeping system
• Failed to reconcile her trust account records
• Failed to protect a client’s interests upon termination of the representation

As a consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Colorado Supreme Court punished Veronica by gifting her with a complimentary 6-month suspension of her law license effective March 19, 2019.

As we speak, (ca. April 2019), Veronica will resume her practice of law in September 2019 in Aurora, Colorado.
