Attorney Ryan Atkinson of Toronto, CAN; ethical elf

The Law Society of Upper Canada presented Ryan John Atkinson with a law license in 2015 after he graduated from York University School of Law.

The Law Society of Upper Canada Disciplinary Committee found Ryan guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Disbursed $47,000 in trust funds when he ought to have known that he was being used by a client, or other person, to facilitate dishonesty or fraud, resulting in an overdraft in his trust account
  • Accepted and disbursed funds when he ought to have known that he was being used by a client, or other person, to facilitate dishonesty or fraud against a third party, who lost over $66,000

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Upper Law Society Committee punished Ryan by gifting him a complimentary 2-month suspension of his law license and assessed him with $20,000.00 in costs regarding the ethics investigation.

As we speak (ca. March 2019), Ryan practices with Atkinson Law PC at 5700-100 King Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
