The Law Society of Upper Canada presented Nelson Tavares Garcia with a law license in 1989 after he graduated from University of Ottawa School of Law.

The Law Society of Upper Canada Disciplinary Committee found Ira guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in professional misconduct
• Failed to be on guard against becoming the tool or dupe of an unscrupulous client or associated persons, in connection with four real estate transactions
• Failed to be honest and candid with his lender clients in connection with three real estate transactions
• Failed to serve his lender clients to the standard of a competent lawyer in connection with three transactions (imbecile)
• Represented both the lender and the borrower in mortgages where the consideration exceeded $50,000 relating to one property
• Failed to complete Forms 18A and 18B in several mortgages relating to one property
• Engaged in an egregious conflict of interest

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Upper Law Society Committee punished Nelson by gifting him a complimentary 3-month suspension of his law license and assessed him with $15,000.00 in costs regarding the ethics investigation.
