Judge Mauricio Araujo of Chicago; pompous misogynist

The state of Illinois presented Mauricio Boris Andres Araujo with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from the University of Illinois School of Law.

In one matter, the presiding Cook County judge reassigned Mauricio to administrative duties following a complaint from the state's attorney's office that he referred to a female prosecutor as "a bitch" and then suggested he may have had sex with her. (Chicago Tribune, Todd Lighty)

Mauricio engaged in the following misogynistic behavior in regards to the female prosecutor who had attended Loyola University Chicago School of Law with him in the early 1990s.

  • Prosecutor in Araujo’s courtroom on pending motion to suppress evidence in murder case
  • She said while at law school, Araujo made unwanted sexual advances toward her
  • After she left courtroom, another female prosecutor heard Araujo stated he seemed upset and became increasingly agitated as he spoke in Spanish to his court clerk

Araujo made the following statements in the presence of other prosecutors about the female prosecutor in question.

  • "She walked in and didn't even give me any congrats or acknowledge me. She acted like she didn't know who I was.”
  • "You think you went to (expletive) [fucking] law school with someone you would think she would say hi to you.”
  • He then referred to her as a “bitch” after male prosecutor told said “maybe she didn't recognize you in your robe”
  • Araujo responded: "Well, maybe it's because I didn't have sex with her or maybe it's because I did have sex with her.”

As we speak (ca. March 2019), the Illinois Judicial Inquiry board hasn’t taken any action against Araujo and when and if they do, at worst he’d likely receive a complimentary admonition.

And lastly, as of the end of 2018, Judge Araujo continues to receive his $202,433 salary while performing unknown administrative duties.
