Judge Tammy Stokes of Savannah, GA: serial slacker

The state Maryland presented Emory Alvin Plitt Jr. with a law license in 1988 after she graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law.

The Judicial Qualifications Commission found Judge Stokes guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in habitual tardiness in starting court
  • Engaged in excessive absenteeism from the court
  • Failed to promote public confidence in the judiciary
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to give her judicial duties precedence over all other activities
Excessive absenteeism required expenditure of significant funds
  • Court spent more than twice as much on judges pro tempore to fill in for Judge Stokes as the other two Recorder’s Court judges combined

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Judge Stokes by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. February 2019), Judge Stokes continues to sit as a ChathamCounty Recorder’s CourtJudge in Savannah, Georgia.
