Attorney Thomas Burton of Cottonwood Heights, UT; ethical troll

The state of Utah presented Thomas M. Burton with a law license in 1966 after he graduated from Brigham Young University School of Law.

The Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme Court found Tommy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to respect the rights of a third person
  • In filing appellate brief, characterized the trial judge’s actions as “abusive” and “sinister”
  • Repeated his client’s vulgar and pejorative statements regarding the victim in his appellate brief
  • Knowingly made a statement he knew to be false or with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge
  • Refused to acknowledge the wrongful nature of the conduct involved
  • Engaged in a pattern of similar misconduct
  • Made additional statements in appellate brief regarding his client’s victim which had no substantial purpose other than to embarrass or burden the victim

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Utah Supreme Court punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Tommy practices with the Law Offices of Thomas M. Burton at 6792 South 1300 East in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
