Today’s Public Official Misfit is Brian Hess of Mt. Vernon, Ohio  Brian Hess was hired by Knox County (50 miles northeast of Columbus) as director of the Knox County Emergency Management Agency in 2008.
In July 2011, six women who work or worked in the 911 dispatching center filed a federal lawsuit against Hess in July, accusing him of sexually harassing employees. The suit also said that county officials did not respond properly when they were told about the harassment. (Columbus Dispatch)
Through their attorney, women said that Brian the Perv engaged in high-school locker room high jinks,” that included the following:
When the women complained to the county in December 2010 about Brian the Perv, county officials responded by placing him on paid administrative leave (aka, vacation). The Perv was also required to undergo training, including mentoring sessions with the sheriff. Obviously, this laughable training didn’t bear any fruit!
As proof positive that Knox County, Ohio is as backwards as the Tug Valley counties of West Virginia and Kentucky, it didn’t have a “sexual harassment policy” on the books until 2010.
The six women complained to the 911 board, the sheriff, county attorneys and commissioners, but nothing was done. Of course nothing was done since Public Official Misfits in Ohio are held to a much lower standard of conduct then you are.
On January 16, 2012, the County finally got around to firing Brian the Perv. County officials laughingly claimed the firing had nothing to do with the pending sexual harassment complaint. No, they fired him because he was a Michigan fan, right?
