Judge Kathryn Michael of Akron; ethical goblin

The state of Ohio presented Kathryn Ann Michael with a law license in 1986 after she graduated from the University of Akron Law School.

Disciplinary Counsel of the Ohio Supreme Court found Kathy guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while she was running for a position as a judge on the Summit County Common Pleas Court. At the time, Kathy was a sitting municipal court judge.

  • Improperly received campaign loan of $25,000 from former husband
  • Permitted a public employee subject to her direction or control to solicit or receive campaign contributions
  • Used the title “judge” in a manner that falsely implied she was a common pleas court judge
  • Acted recklessly in the manner in which she conducted her campaign
  • Engaged in egregious misconduct re: $25,000 campaign loan

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Kathy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand, a $5,000 fine and ordered to pay her opponent’s attorney fees of $2,500.

As we speak (ca. June 2018) Kathy continues to sit as a judge on the on Akron Municipal Court at 217 South High Street in Akron, Ohio.
