► Prosecutor Donald Myers of Lexington, SC; bigot, repeat offender

The state of South Carolina provided Donald V. Myers with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from Florida State University Law School.

First and foremost, it should be noted that this isn’t Donnie’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. To view additional articles about Donnie, go to the Attorney Misfit section under the Main Menu and then click on to Tennessee and look for him alphabetically.

In one matter, Donnie was involved in prosecuting a murder case involving Johnny Bennett. Subsequently, Bennett was found guilty and sentenced to death.

After receiving the death penalty, Bennett’s attorney filed a habeas appeal with the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia. The court of appeals reversed the death sentence and in its ruling stated:

  • Myers “chose to use racially charged language from the first sentence of his opening argument to his final soliloquy.”
  • In his closing argument, he said if jurors did not impose the death penalty, “vile Johnny” would return.
  • Not imposing death penalty would be “like meeting King Kong on a bad day.”
  • Called Bennett a a “caveman,” a “mountain man,” a “monster,” a “big old tiger,” and a “beast of burden.”

The Court went on to say that Myers elicited “inflammatory testimony” from a witness who recalled a dream about being chased by murderous black Indians. When questioning another witness, Myers referred to Bennett’s sexual partner as a “blonde-headed lady,” which alerted jurors to the interracial relationship.

All of Myers’ biased/bigoted rants as set forth above were made before an all-white jury.

Due to Myers’ deplorable conduct, the overtaxed taxpayers of South Carolina are on the hook for the costs of Bennett’s appeal (defense attorney fees, etc.) and the cost of conduct yet another trial to determine if he will be sentenced to death.

As we speak (May 2017), Myers the Bigot continues in his position as solicitor (prosecutor) for the 11th Judicial Circuit in Lexington, South Carolina.
