Former Judge Daniel Burkeen of Groesbeck, TX; ethical troll

The state of Texas presented Daniel Burkeen with a law license in 1982 after he graduated from the University of Texas Law School.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Danny guilty of and/or charged him with engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Charged with driving under the influence (DUI)
  • Became a “national embarrassment” after news of his DUI arrest became public
  • Found lying on the ground next to his car outside the courthouse one morning
  • May have engaged in inappropriate conduct with females who appeared in criminal cases in his court

In a separate matter, Burkeen was also publicly reprimanded by the judicial conduct commission in February 2018 for making political posts to his Facebook page that “cast reasonable doubt on his capacity to act impartially as a judge,” violating the Texas Code of Judicial conduct.

Rather than wait for a ruling from the Texas Supreme Court that may have resulted in him being bounced from the bench, Danny took the cowards way out and stepped down from his judicial office on or about March 30,2018.

As we speak (ca. April 2018), Danny practices at 200 West State Street in Groesbeck, Texas.
