Attorney Richard Ross of Pittsburgh; check bouncing slacker

 

The state of Pennsylvania provided Richard S. Ross with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from Temple University Law School.

 

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) found Dick guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Wrote check for $2,485 on insufficient funds account (rubber)
  • Collected/charged excessive/illegal $4,500 in unearned fees from client (crook)
  • Failed to refund $4,500 in unearned fees until ordered to do so by Office of Disciplinary Counsel and only after client filed ethics complaint
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Failed to comply with client information requests
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court punished Dick by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 1-year suspension of his law license.
