Attorney Thomas Poteat of Owensboro, KY; ethical troll

The state of Kentucky presented Thomas Steven Poteat with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from Northern Kentucky University Law School.

The Kentucky Bar Association found Tommy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in illegal practice of law while license suspended
  • Failed to tell client his law license had been suspended
  • Attempted to convince his clients to sign a waiver of any potential legal malpractice claims they might have against him
  • Failed to advise the clients to seek legal representation regarding the proposed waiver of any malpractice claims
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Tommy!)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Kentucky Supreme Court the punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. March 2016), Tommy practice with Wilson Hutchinson & Poteat at 611 Frederica Street in Owensboro, Kentucky.
