Judge Luis Aguilar of El Paso; Judge Roy Bean Wannabee, Dumbo

The Supreme Court of Texas presented Teresa Jan Hawthorne with a law license in 1990 after he graduated from the University of Michigan Law School.

FYI: Judge Roy Bean was an infamous Justice of the Peace and saloon owner in Texas who called himself the "The Law West of the Pecos." Roy was also affectionately referred to as the Hanging Judge.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Louie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to maintain competence in the law (Dumbo)
  • Illegally issued bench warrant for attorney who failed to appear at court hearing
  • Engaged in a persistent pattern of mistreating those who appeared in his court
  • Failed to advise attorney of what he conduct entailed in ordering his appearance for a show cause contempt hearing
  • Ignorantly violated a person’s constitutional right to due process
  • Improperly scheduled hearing in case after its dismissal by plaintiff’s counsel
  • Failed to provide 8-month pregnant attorney with written explanation of what her contemptuous conduct was at the time he scheduled a show cause contempt hearing (violation of due process rights)
  • Failed to withdraw from case when Texas statute mandated his withdrawal
  • Violated well-established law in assessing $20,000 in contempt sanctions and legal fees against Wal-Mart entities
  • Subjected numerous persons to extremely impolite and disrespectful treatment
  • Repeatedly and intentionally shamed prospective female jurors in open court
  • Failed to comply with applicable Texas laws
  • Engaged in willful and persistent conduct casting public ridicule on the judiciary

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Louie by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

In addition, Louie was ordered to receive eight (8) hours of judicial education. It is rumored that Louie opted to attend the Judge Judy Institute for required Judicial Demeanor in New York City.

As we speak (ca. February 2018), Louie continues to sit as a 243rd Judicial District Court judge in El Paso, Texas.
