Attorney R. Ian Histed of Winnipeg, CAN; ethical troll
The Law Society of Manitoba presented R. Ian Histed with a law license in 1991 after he graduated from the University of Manitoba Law School.
The Manitoba Barrister’s Society found Ian guilty of the following misconduct.
In one matter, Ian was hired re: residential school litigation involving the Attorney General of Canada. Ian and opposing counsel agreed to a consensual list of three judges from which a case management judge was to be selected.
In a letter he wrote to the Federal Department of Justice, Ian rejected names put forward by opposing counsel and declared that one of the named judges “frankly is a bigot.”
Subsequently, Ian was found guilty of failing in his duties owed to other lawyers, the courts and his profession by writing such a letter which was offensive and inconsistent with the proper tone of professional communication.
As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Law Society punished Ian by gifting him with a complimentary $2,500.00 fine and costs of $7,500.00.
As we speak (ca. February 2018), Ian practices with Downtown Legal Action at 586 Broadway in Winnipeg, Canada.
