Attorney Stephanie Ritland of Strasburg, CO; ethical gnome

The state of Colorado provided Stephanie A. Ritland with a law license in 1993 after she graduated from the University of Denver Law School.

The Colorado Disciplinary Counsel found Stephanie guilty of the following misconduct.

• Circumvented proper channels for adoption of second cousin’s baby
• Falsely listed her husband as the birth father on baby’s birth certificate
• Filed petition for stepparent adoption in which she referred to her husband as the birth father
• Counseled her husband to falsely testify that he was the birth father (subornation of perjury) in a filing related to the adoption matter
• Knowingly made false statements of material fact to a tribunal
• Knowingly/intentionally falsified evidence
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
• June 22, 2017 Presiding Disciplinary Judge ordered reinstatement

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Colorado Supreme Court punished Stephanie by gifting her with a complimentary 3-year suspension of her law license.

Because Attorney Misfits in Colorado are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Stephanie was never criminally charged with subornation of perjury. 

As we speak (ca. February 2018) Stephanie practices in Ritland, Colorado.
