Judge Judith Matarazzo of Portland, OR; cheerleader for drunk drivers

The state of South Carolina presented Marybeth Dingledy with a law license in 1995 after she graduated from Williamette University Law School.

In one matter, Judy was assigned to preside over the case of a 56-year-old man Cary Dean Devore who racked up his ninth conviction for drunken driving (Aimee Green, The Oregonian).

At the time of his arrest on his latest drunk driving escapade Devore's blood alcohol content was .28 percent, 3 1/2 times the legal limit of .08 percent for driving.

Despite a sentencing recommendation of six-years imprisonment recommended by Deputy District Attorney Mike Bottoff, Judy laughably sentenced the serial criminal to one-year in the county jail. With time off for good behavior, Devore would likely spend no more than six-months in jail.

At the sentencing hearing, Judy had the chutzpah to say that it was “inevitable” that Devore would drink and drive again, but putting him in prison for a long time wouldn’t solve that problem.

As we speak (ca. January 2018), Judge continues to sit as a Multnomah County Circuit Judge in Portland, Oregon.
